Nordic Hemp Hackathon is looking to find new solutions for the industrial hemp value chain.
(Estonia)
Samtliga arrangeras i olika länder, består av olika utmaningar men stöds av samarbetet med bland annat Paper Province. Informationen uppdateras löpande här nedan.
Maximizing the value of apple biomass

Application deadline: 27 March
REFAL Hackathon aim to find a innovative product and/or technological solution that will allow to increase the value of sound biomass from apples damaged by weather conditions. The apples are a full value product, but due to various types of skin or shape defects, such fruits are disqualified from direct sales. The winner(s) of the REFAL Hackathon will get the opportunity to establish a long-term business cooperation with the REFAL Group, in particular by preparing and implementing a joint development project, implementing a new technology or establishing a new production line.

Sustainable Use of Apple Pomace
Application deadline: 28 March

Piesta Kuusikaru, an Estonian award-winning producer of premium apple products, is seeking innovative ways to extract value from apple pomace — a by-product of their production process. Currently pomace is transported to a waste management company for composting, but rising transportation costs are making this solution financially unsustainable.
The company is committed to reducing waste, cutting costs, and creating value from residues, not just for itself but potentially for or in collaboration with other similar producers in the region.
The hackathon will be conducted 15-16 May in Estonia.

Accelerating biological soil treatment for petroleum-contaminated sites
Application deadline: 27 March

Contamination with petroleum products poses a significant environmental threat, disrupting ecosystems and slowing natural recovery efforts. TOKSIKA challenges you to design an efficient and environmentally friendly solution to enhance bioremediation without harming the microbial communities driving the cleanup. Depending on the maturity of your idea, TOKSIKA offers Hackathon participants the opportunity for business collaboration, joint projects, or pilot programs to bring your concept to life.

Industrial hemp
Application closed 14 February

The aim of the BioBoosters Nordic Hemp Hackathon ”Hemp Hack: Innovate to Elevate” is to develop the most optimal and efficient ways to valorize hemp fibers, dust, and hurd obtained during the decortication of hemp stalks in Nordic Hemp.
”We are not looking for conventional solutions like using hemp hurd for hempcrete, dust for briquettes, or fibers for clothing. Instead, we seek innovative approaches that push the boundaries of current applications. By developing solutions or technologies that propose novel uses for these hemp by-products, you can demonstrate creativity, sustainability, and economic viability. Join us in adding value to the by-products of hemp valorization in Estonia, the third-largest hemp producer in Europe.”
The hackathon will be conducted 13-14 March in Estonia at Estonian Circular Bioeconomy HUB.
