The Nordic countries have pledged to become the most integrated, sustainable region in the world by 2030, with an emphasis on green (circular and bio-based), competitive and socially inclusive societies. To achieve this, common efforts are required from all countries. Part of the solution is Nordic Circular Hubs is one part of the solution.
Nordic Circular Hubs aims to support the practical development of IUS methods (Industrial Urban Symbiosis) in the Nordic regions, by increasing communication and cooperation between key stakeholders.
Industrial symbiosis means connecting companies and other stakeholders from different industries in order to use plants’ residual flows, in the form of, for example, energy or residual material, as resources for the next stage.
The project will enable collaborative measures to find concrete solutions to reduce the carbon footprint, reduce and optimize the use of materials, promote innovations and implement new business models. The project is led by Kalundborg Symbiosis in Denmark. Eyde Cluster from Norway, Paper Province and Linköping University from Sweden and Iceland Ocean Cluster from Iceland participate in the project. The project will run for two years until the autumn of 2022. Nordic Innovation is the main funder.
