THE FUTURE OF THE FOREST INDUSTRY
Bio-economy is the future of the forest industry. According to the EUs calculations, the bio-economy sector in Europe reaches annual sales of approximately 2 trillion Euros. That means 20 billion billion Euros. And, according to EU estimates, every Euro invested in bio-economic research will generate ten times the money until 2025.
REPLACING BLACK CARBON ATOMS WITH GREEN ONES
In simplified terms Bio-economy is about replacing all black fossil carbon with green biological carbon atoms. The green ones works just as well for fuels, plastics and other things produced from fossil raw materials and have the added advantage that they don’t foul up our atmosphere with more carbon dioxide. Using bio-refining we can divide a tree into hundreds of chemicals which in turn can be used to manufacture thousands of products, fuels and energy.
Bio-economy is also about using the biological resources we have as smart and as economical as possible. Recycling is a key part of the bio-economy, but also to recycle materials and products in an order that allows us to get the maximum benefit from every single atom, before finally burning it to harvest the energy.
Another key ingredient in the future bio-economy is to reduce our energy consumption – in transportation, electronics, heating and all other processes that consume energy. If we succeed, there will be enough forest raw materials to support an even higher production of welfare.
