IS THERE A LIFE AFTER UNIVERSITY?
Every year Paper Province arraganges two student field trips – one from The University of Karlstad and one The University of Chalmers, Gothenburg. We fill a bus with students and visit a few of our member companies to show the students how it is to work in our trade. During the trip they get to meet potential employers and have a chance to discuss internships, a master thesis or future employment opportunities. If you are a student you should definitely join the next trip. Please note that the trip will be held in swedish.
Every year we ask our member companies to estimate how many new employees they needed to recruit during the next year. The response rate is usually around 60 percent and the needed number of employees have been a little more than 400 the last couple of years. Mostly our member companies need different kinds of engineers and technicians, but occasionally they need administrators and other professions that are not unique for the forest industry.
To give the students at The University of Karlstad and The University of Chalmers a glimpse of our trade we arrange a yearly field trip to a couple
of our most successful member companies. The bus leaves the university early in the morning and when we wrap up the day with a late dinner the students usually don’t want to go home. The participating students gain contacts at companies that may offer them internships, a place to work on their master thesis and maybe even offer them a position with interesting career paths.
For the participating companies this is a good and cost effective way to maket themselves towards potential future employees and to identify talent before they are looking for a job.
